This course provides an overview of basic networking concepts such as the client/server model, types of networks, network topologies, and major network operating systems. It examines networking protocols and the OSI Reference Model, and discusses LANs and WANS, communication devices, and transmission types and media used in networking.
Objectives:
- Describe basic network architectures and topologies
- Identify the major network operating systems and their clients
- Discuss the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model (OSI/RM), including the layers and functions at each level
- Describe key internetworking protocols, including TCP/IP, and their functions
- Explain how various LAN and WAN devices work together
